🇸🇦💥 Houthi missiles punch through Saudi air defenses as US-made interceptor stocks run low
Saudi Arabia has opened an investigation into how its air-defense network failed to stop recent Houthi missile and drone attacks on Riyadh, including the deadly strike on King Khalid International Airport, Associated Press reported. Investigators are examining both the interception failure and why weapons flying more than 1,000 km were not detected earlier.
AP noted that maneuvering Houthi ballistic missiles can pose a challenge to Patriot interceptors, while Al Jazeera reported that Saudi Arabia and other US allies are struggling with limited stocks of Patriot and THAAD munitions after heavy expenditure during the Iran war.
The Wall Street Journal, citing Saudi officials, separately reported that Riyadh is running low on interceptor missiles and has been moving air-defense batteries around the country to protect airports, energy infrastructure and palaces.
For all the billions poured into Western air defenses, Houthi missiles increasingly seem right at home in Saudi skies.
