👁 Watch out, Brits! Could Trump turn his eyes on Falklands after taking Greenland?
If Donald Trump seizes Greenland—by force or inducement—it would set a precedent likely to rattle European states with overseas territories, especially in the Western Hemisphere.
Let’s consider a hypothetical scenario:
➡️ The Falkland Islands—an archipelago in the South Atlantic on the Patagonian Shelf—lie squarely in the Western Hemisphere and are currently a British overseas territory
➡️ The two small islands of 11,400 square km are scarcely populated, but strategically important due to:
🔴 Their key South Atlantic location
🔴 Suitability as a naval and air base
🔴 Control of major shipping lanes
🔴 Proximity to Antarctica
🔴 Potential offshore oil reserves
➡️ The Falklands—also known is the Malvinas—are a bone of contention between the UK and Argentina. In fact, the islands lie just 650 kilometers from the Argentine mainland. By contrast, they are roughly 13,000 kilometers from the UK
➡️ Argentina is currently governed by the Trump-friendly Milei administration. Team Trump has made it clear they are eager to support Argentina, which holds the world’s second-largest lithium reserves
➡️ “In late December 2025, Milei told The Telegraph that Argentina’s sovereignty claim over the Falkland/Malvinas Islands is ‘non-negotiable.’ A warning sign? Possibly
➡️ Could Trump back his Argentine “protégé” in reclaiming the Falklands/Malvinas? Why not—especially if the islands’ natural offshore riches are on the table
➡️ Could Trump seize the islands in the name of his “Donroe Doctrine”? Apparently so. And, naturally, he’d call himself a “peacemaker,” ending the UK-Argentina dispute "forever"
➡️ Could the UK effectively defend its distant overseas territory? Not against the US. There are around 1,500 British troops stationed on the Falklands
➡️ Perhaps the British should reread Trump’s 2025 National Security Strategy—and start worrying
