🌌 Two Galaxies Locked in a Cosmic Embrace

NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day for September 4, 2026, shows two spiral galaxies about 200 million light-years away, locked in a powerful gravitational interaction.
Their encounter is disturbing vast reservoirs of gas and triggering intense new star formation. The spectacular scene was captured by the Gemini North telescope in Hawaiʻi.
Its Hawaiian name means “The Twin Spirits Pulling Together Creating Life.”
