A Wandering Black Hole Caught Eating a Star 🕳️
Astronomers have identified the first optical tidal disruption event caused by a supermassive black hole located away from its galaxy’s center.
The black hole, about one million times the mass of the Sun, revealed itself by tearing apart and swallowing a nearby star. Hubble and Chandra confirmed that the event occurred 2,600 light-years from the galaxy’s central black hole.
