The Sky’s Greatest Show Returns This August 🌠
Every August, Earth passes through the trail of dust left behind by Comet Swift–Tuttle, creating one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year: the Perseids. This year, the peak will occur on the night of August 12–13, and the conditions are nearly perfect. Because the Moon will be in its new moon phase, its light won’t wash out the sky, allowing up to 100 meteors per hour to be visible under dark skies. The best time to watch is from around 11:00 PM until dawn, with the highest activity just before sunrise. The meteors will appear to radiate from the Perseus constellation, but they can streak across any part of the sky. Sometimes, all it takes is looking up. 🌌
