В этом июле у нас проходит онлайн-кружок, посвященный тому, как россияне внутри страны обходят цензуру с помощью эзопова языка и иносказаний. На финальную встречу кружка участни:цы кружка зовут гостей из других стран — подискутировать о том, как обсуждать запрещенные темы в разных государствах, можно ли считать эзопов язык протестной практикой и точно ли даже в демократиях гарантирована свобода слова.

Приходите, если…

…вы активист_ка, журналист_ка или человек с любой другой самоидентификацией, интересуетесь Россией в целом и практиками жизни в условиях цензуры, а также говорите на английском и/или русском.

Что будет происходить

Модерируемая встреча, на которой участни:цы поделятся опытом обхода цензуры и практик иносказаний и обсудят серые зоны эзопова языка:

— Где грань между намёками и самоцензурой?
— Почему двусмысленный образ в одной среде может быть маркетингом и квирбейтингом, а в другой — политическим высказыванием и проявлением солидарности?
— Как на нашу свободу слова влияют не только государства, но и алгоритмы соцсетей?
— Можно ли оправдывать запреты безопасностью?
— С какими ограничениями в высказываниях сталкиваются люди во (вроде бы) устойчивых демократиях?

Нужно зарегистрироваться через наш анонимный бот, написав:

The meeting will be held in Russian and English, live translation will be provided. 

We are hosting an online workshop focusing on how people currently living in Russia bypass state censorship by engaging aesopian and other forms of cryptic language.

Participants are calling for people from other countries to discuss ways to talk about prohibited topics in different countries. We also wanna ponder whether aesopian language can be considered as a protest and is freedom of speech actually guaranteed in democratic nations.

You should come, if…

…you're an activist, journalist or anyone interested in discussing the impact Russia and other authoritarian countries are having on freedom of speech.

What to expect

Moderated meeting where workshop participants will share their experience using aesopian language to bypass censorship and discuss gray zones of communication:

Where's the border between implications and self-censorship?
Why puns and rhymes in some environments can be considered as marketing and queerbaiting but in others — political statement or display of solidarity?
How our freedom of speech is influenced not only by states but social network algorithms?
Can restrictions be justified by enforcement of state security?
What restriction people face, even in (what appears to be) stable democracies.

Simple answers and mundane lectures.

Why international dialogue is important to us

For a myriad of reasons, e.g. it’s always better to exercise a dialogue than to live in your own bubble. But first of all we want to remind ourselves that we are not alone despite feeling like that inside Russia. We also want to exchange stories and share experiences with people from other circumstances.
