Oil on canvas
30.1×23.7 cm

In 1881–1882, Vasily Polenov traveled through the Middle East alongside Prince Semyon Abamelik-Lazarev and art historian Adrian Prakhov.

This piece was created under the deep impression of what he witnessed in the Holy Land. From this journey, Polenov brought back over a hundred sketches—capturing ancient Eastern architecture, landscapes, and local people.
