🪅 There is an opinion

Apple and other tech companies design AI logos → to be friendly, unthreatening, and non-anthropomorphic, often using simple, colorful graphics.

The logos avoid human-like features, focusing instead on abstract, approachable designs to ensure they appear non-threatening and pleasant.

And here are two logos that Apple unveiled during its WWDC presentation: one for Apple Intelligence, the other for the new AI-powered Siri.

🤖 Express Yourself with Qudi Mask 2

Developers have introduced the Qudi Mask 2 → , a wearable gadget that projects your emotions onto a digital display, hiding your identity while expressing your feelings.

The advanced mask replicates facial expressions in real time using LED technology, featuring over 30 different moods. It responds to head movements, with nods and shakes triggering corresponding expressions.

While it’s a fun and innovative concept, practical use in serious situations like meetings or dates remains questionable. With a battery life of up to three hours, it’s more of a novelty than a practical everyday tool. Priced at $129, the Qudi Mask 2 is set to ship worldwide by December 2024—just in time for holiday parties where you might want to hide your social exhaustion behind a digital smile.

🔎 Self-Healing Glass Discovered

Researchers → have discovered that mixing a peptide with water creates a self-assembling, self-healing glass.

Peptides, smaller chains of amino acids, usually form crystalline structures. However, this accidental discovery revealed that a specific dipeptide forms a glass-like, transparent material. This new glass is not only strong and transparent but also self-healing and adhesive.

Potential applications include lenses, glass panes, and coatings for hydrophilic surfaces. Remarkably, it requires less energy to produce than traditional glass, opening doors to sustainable manufacturing.

🐶 AI Cracks the Code of Dog Barks

Researchers from the University of Michigan have developed an innovative AI model → to decode dog barks. By leveraging AI models initially trained on human speech, the team can discern whether a bark signals playfulness, aggression, and even identify the dog's age, breed, and sex.

The study utilized the Wav2Vec2 model, which was fine-tuned with dog barks after being pre-trained on nearly 1,000 hours of human speech. This repurposed model surpassed those trained solely on dog vocalizations, achieving up to 70% accuracy in emotion classification tasks.

The research opens new avenues for understanding animal communication by applying human speech analysis techniques to animal sounds, overcoming the challenge of limited animal vocalization data.
