Ten minutes from Downtown, there is land no developer will ever touch.
Ras Al Khor sits at the head of the Creek — roughly six square kilometres of mudflat and mangrove, protected since 2007 as the first Ramsar wetland in the country. Around 450 species live there. Thousands of flamingos winter in it.
At dusk they lift off with the skyline directly behind them.
In a city that builds its own islands, the rarest thing left is ground that stays empty.
