The situation in #Gaza is catastrophic.

With two months of an aid blockade, we don’t need to see photos of emaciated children to know people are hungry, and that children are weak and malnourished, with life-long consequences.

Ceasefire, for the release of hostages and for access of humanitarian aid.

As a grandfather of four young children, there's no greater joy in my life than watching them grow up healthy. To watch their talents evolve. To help their dreams come true.

Vaccines and timely access to immunization are largely to thank for this joy.

Over the last 50 years, vaccines have saved at least 6 lives every minute.

And therefore, vaccination accounts for 40% of the improvement in baby survival rates, and more children now live to see their first birthday and beyond than at any other time in human history.

As a parent and public health professional, I can confidently say that vaccines are one of the best gifts we can give to our children and grandchildren to enable them to pursue their talents and dreams.

Let's put our minds to it and give the gift of life to all children and grandchildren.

25 years ago, world leaders made a remarkable commitment to #EndMalaria, one of the world's biggest killers.

Since then, 13 million lives have been saved.

On #WorldMalariaDay, WHO calls on governments and donors to help us make sure that malaria ends with us.

Since the 1970s, immunization has saved more than 150 million lives, from diseases like measles, diphtheria, pertussis, and polio.

That's more than 4 million lives per year.

With immunization for all, anything is possible – #HumanlyPossible.

Deeply saddened about the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. He was a humble yet powerful voice of wisdom and humanity.

I had the honour to meet with him several times - each time I felt personally inspired by his humility.

Our troubled world needs more leaders like His Holiness — to champion peace and put the poorest and most vulnerable first. He will be greatly missed.

WHO Member States made history in Geneva today by reaching consensus on a proposed #PandemicAccord: who.int/news/item/16-0…

I thank national negotiators for their foresight, commitment and tireless work. Gratitude as well to civil society partners. We look forward to #WHA78 where countries will consider the agreement for final adoption.

The two years of a deadly conflict in #Sudan have left millions of Sudanese people hungry, injured, sick and without homes.

Last summer, I visited Port Sudan, and the Adré crossing in Chad where Sudanese mothers and children are seeking refuge. Their sadness and despair still haunt me to this day.

Despite insecurity and access constraints, WHO and partners are tirelessly trying to deliver humanitarian aid and health assistance to as many people as possible. But aid is not enough.

Sudanese people need peace. The best medicine is peace.

We urge the protection of civilians and health at all times and a commitment to lasting peace.

The #PandemicAccord negotiations are still ongoing — the Member States have agreed to resume on Tuesday, after working through the night without any sleep for more than 24h non-stop. We’re very grateful for their commitment.

I’m deeply thankful to my colleagues, WHO staff, who are supporting the negotiations around the clock. They truly make me #ProudToBeWHO.

A month of aid blockade in #Gaza has left families hungry, without clean water, shelter, or adequate health care.

WHO calls for:
- lifting of the aid blockade
- protection of health care
- unimpeded humanitarian access across Gaza
- immediate resumption of daily medical evacuations
- release of hostages
- ceasefire

Since 2000, maternal deaths declined 40% globally.

This success is largely due to improved access to essential health services.

This #WorldHealthDay, we thank all health workers, scientists, and governments who are providing #HopefulFutures to mums and babies.

This #WorldHealthDay, we celebrate the many lives saved thanks to commitments to maternal and child health. Women are more likely to survive pregnancy and childbirth than ever before.

But to deliver #HopefulFutures to everyone, all women need quality maternal care, no matter who they are or where they live.

WHO calls on all countries to step up their commitments and investments to promote, provide and protect the health of all mums and babies.

Tomorrow’s World Health Day is a cause for celebration, and a call to action.

More mothers and children are surviving today than ever before.

But still, every 7 seconds, a mother or baby dies a preventable death.

That is why WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA launched the “Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere” partnership, and the Child Survival Action initiative, to support national and local health systems in stopping preventable deaths.

We can't buy clean air, so let's fight for it!

The 2nd WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health concluded with a shared goal among over 50 countries to reduce the health impacts by 50% by 2040 and save millions of lives every year.

My deepest thanks to President Gustavo Petro for his leadership and for mobilising support from around the world to address air pollution as a critical public health issue.

Now, let's turn commitments into actions!
