Axios reports that a White House official has said that the energy ceasefire refers to a potential deal to stop attacks on oil refineries.
“A deal to stop hitting power plants and energy grids could come next”
Ukraine has no functioning oil refineries which means that, if Axios’s report is accurate, the substance of the current energy ceasefire is that only Ukraine has to stop hitting Russian oil refineries.
Ukraine has just one oil refinery on the territory it currently holds. The Kremenchuk oil refinery hasn’t produced a single drop of gasoline or diesel since it was hit by Russian missiles in April 2022.
The Russians have kept hitting it ever since to make sure that it can’t be repaired. It has been hit by 60 missiles and 260 drones so far.
