Things to bring home from your autumn trip to Russia. Part 2
Wait, what? Again? Yes. Can’t get enough of it, right? Jokes aside, this is part two of our little guide to souvenirs with an autumn twist. Last time, everything was edible. This time, we’re finally giving your suitcase a break from snacks - all non-edible!
1. Khokhloma-painted pieces
Bold red, black and gold patterns on wooden tableware and decorative objects - probably one of the easiest ways to bring a very recognisable piece of Russian craft home.
2. Pavlovo Posad shawls
Floral, colourful and easy to style - pick the right one and it can work with almost anything. Or get a few and turn layering into a full-on extravaganza.
3. Birch-bark crafts
Boxes, baskets, containers and all sorts of small handmade pieces. A birch-bark basket would also be perfect for mushroom picking - perhaps the most autumn-coded activity of them all.
4. Ryazan “mushrooms with eyes”
Yes, exactly what it sounds like. The local saying “In Ryazan, mushrooms have eyes” has turned into one of the city’s most charming souvenir motifs - tiny mushrooms staring right back at you.
5. A samovar
Now that screams commitment! If you somehow figure out how to get one back home, congratulations - you’ve officially won the souvenir game.
And if your suitcase still has room, you’ll find even more inspiration and ideas on what to bring home from Russia in the autumn edition of our Ultimate Travel Guide.
