The Chain Strangled

Michael’s speaking here, as the dad of the Cults! No words, I am just grateful that Dead Culture Society is alive once again because Des Enterprise is visiting, especially for the weekly routines, #WednesDes too after a few days with only one and two people visiting. I am glad its atmosphere and content is functionally used. Much love for you, Des. 🩶

back again at Dead Culture Society, wandering around in search of something to read because boredom decided to pay me a visit tonight. somehow, i ended up finding Daddy by Danielle Steel, which immediately caught my attention, and naturally… i couldn’t leave with just one book. so yes, i somehow talked myself into bringing home a little stack tonight. no regrets whatsoever.

there’s just something about this place that always feels different. the atmosphere is so warm, quiet, and strangely comforting, the kind of place where you lose track of time without even realizing how many hours you’ve been lingering between the shelves. it feels wonderfully homey, almost like the sort of place you could disappear into for an entire afternoon with a book in your hands and completely forget the outside world exists. and now that i have such easy access to this little haven… well, he might have accidentally given me permission to become his most frequent book borrower. i’ll be borrowing half the shelves at this rate, hehe. it’s genuinely so good to be back here.

a very bookish helliewello, desocie! livia nunes reporting for #WednesDES, as our little LA adventure led me to dead culture society, a literary little haven by michael oberoi, with the picture of dorian gray tucked under my arm and far too much delight in my heart. the bookshelves were gorgeous, the flowers were behaving beautifully, and every old frame seemed to be silently judging my life choices. naturally, i settled in anyway. a little reading, a little lounging, a little dramatic posing, then dinner in my enormous furry cocoon because apparently that is how one conducts oneself inside michael’s library. honestly, i only came for the books and emerged looking like the suspiciously overdressed aunt at a very gothic family reunion!

#WednesDes in LA, Wu Lei decided to stop by Dead Culture Society, finally getting the chance to visit Michael’s place. I wasn’t really planning on doing anything particular at first, but the moment I stepped inside, the quiet atmosphere and shelves filled with books made me want to stay. I took my time looking around, picking up a few books here and there until one finally caught my attention. Ended up finding a comfortable spot by the shelves and spent the next while reading, enjoying the slow pace after all the traveling. Maybe this is exactly the kind of evening I needed before getting back out there and exploring the rest of LA.

#WednesDES: This season, Los Angeles features Choi Youngjae wandering through the repository of the Dead Culture Society.

A long-bereaved heart, a long-wilted flower, a brittle wall on the brink of collapse, a weathered overhead. The house, once comforting, but now feels suffocating; and the sun hesitates to penetrate the old, abandoned building. Now it has reached its climax, the final episode of what has been adored all along. The Dead Wife suffers in their grave, leaving behind a lingering melancholy. Myriads of books—whose pages are beginning to yellow—are perfectly preserved, as though eyes wander every nook and cranny. Perhaps you could introduce me to one of your greatest collection, Michael? With hope these feelings linger and grow everlasting in the air of this City of Angels. The “7:30 PM” that was always so eagerly awaited has now faded, swallowed by the obliteration of time.

END.
