Allah tests you in the very blessing he gave you:

The place of honor becomes the place of trial, to test your gratitude and patience.

Allah says: {
﴿هَٰذَا مِن فَضْلِ رَبِّي لِيَبْلُوَنِي أَأَشْكُرُ أَمْ أَكْفُرُ﴾
This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful} [An-Naml: 40].

And this Sunnah is manifested in the stories of the Prophets and the accounts of the righteous men and women in the Qur'an.


*1. Muhammad ﷺ*
- *Blessing:* Revelation (Al-Wahy)
- *Trial:* His people called him mad because of it: {Indeed you are mad} [15:6]
- *Honor:* Allah defended him: {You are not, by the favor of your Lord, a madman} [68:2]

*2. Ibrahim (Abraham)*
- *Blessing:* Allah took him as a Khalil (close friend) [4:125]
- *Trial:* He was ordered to sacrifice his beloved son.
- *Outcome:* {Indeed, this was the clear trial} [37:106] then {We ransomed him with a great sacrifice} [37:107]

*3. Yusuf (Joseph)*
- *Blessing:* Exceptional beauty
- *Trial:* That beauty caused women to seduce him and led to prison.
- *Outcome:* His inner beauty (chastity) was revealed: {Indeed, he is of the truthful} [12:51]

*4. Dawud (David)*
- *Blessing:* Kingship, wisdom, and judgment
- *Trial:* He was tested in a case of judgment with two litigants [38:24]
- *Outcome:* He repented, so Allah forgave him and honored him [38:25]

*5. Sulaiman (Solomon)*
- *Blessing:* A huge kingdom
- *Trial:* Would that kingdom distract him from Allah?
- *Response:* He said: {This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful} [27:40]

*6. Ya'qub (Jacob)*
- *Blessing:* His beloved son Yusuf
- *Trial:* He lost him and wept until {his eyes became white from grief} [12:84]
- *Outcome:* He was patient until Allah returned him: {He returned as seeing} [12:96]

*7. Maryam (Mary)*
- *Blessing:* Allah chose her and purified her [3:42]
- *Trial:* Her people accused her of unchastity: {You have done a thing unprecedented} [19:27]
- *Outcome:* Allah proved her innocence by making her baby speak: {Indeed, I am the servant of Allah} [19:30]

*8. Aisha (radiyaAllahuanha)*
- *Blessing:* Chastity and being the wife of the Prophet ﷺ
- *Trial:* The slander of Al-Ifk [24:11]
- *Outcome:* Allah revealed her innocence in Quran: {They are declared innocent of what they say} [24:26] - Quran recited forever.

*9. Zainab bint Jahsh (radiyaAllahu anha)*
- *Blessing:* Noble lineage and kinship to the Prophet ﷺ
- *Trial:* She was tested to marry Zayd against social norms of lineage [33:36]
- *Outcome:* Allah honored her Himself: {We married her to you} [33:37]

*10. Mother of Musa*
- *Blessing:* Her son Musa
- *Trial:* She was ordered: {When you fear for him, cast him into the river} [28:7]
- *Outcome:* She obeyed, and Allah promised: {So We restored him to his mother} [28:13]
