Founded by Pete Cooling, who previously led Visa's crypto product team and represented Visa at the Linux OpenWallet Foundation, Atum works as a coordination layer rather than a payment rail. Apps, card issuers, fintechs and AI agents submit a payment request, then settlement providers compete with real-time quotes to fulfill it across any supported chain and stablecoin, while smart contracts lock funds until delivery is verified. Atum issues no currency, runs no blockchain and never takes custody of customer funds.
The network already processes both human and agentic payments, supporting protocols like x402 and MPP, and is open to builders today. Earning only on volume, Atum pitches itself as credibly neutral plumbing for a stablecoin market still splintered across dozens of chains.
