Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in its new 5.5 family, which it says performs at the level of flagship Fable 5.1 on most work while costing far less to run.
Pricing drops across the board: input and output tokens now run $4 and $20 per million (20% below Opus 5), while cache reads, the bulk of agentic and coding costs, fall 60% to $0.20 per million. Output generates over 30% faster, and Anthropic raised five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. On its own benchmarks the model leads in agentic coding, computer use and knowledge work, and posts the best score to date on Anthropic's internal alignment audit. One early tester ran a 680,000-line code migration in under a day.
Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are set to follow in the coming weeks with the same gains in performance, efficiency and safety.
