KittehCoin ($MEOW) is one of the earliest cryptocurrencies and is widely recognized as one of the first cat-themed meme coins.

Launched on December 23–24, 2013, on Bitcointalk, it was a Scrypt Proof-of-Work coin created as the cat counterpart to Dogecoin during the early meme coin era.

Some key facts about the original project:

• The genesis block was created around December 23, 2013, at 06:21:24 UTC. Supporters claim it was launched about 16 hours before Catcoin based on code timestamps.

• It included fun details like the message: “ICanHazKitteh at epoch 1387779684. Meow. Now pet me.”

• The network featured random block rewards with a minimum payout, a 60-second block time in later versions, and a maximum supply that was eventually adjusted to around 25 billion MEOW.

• It was fully open source, community-driven, and launched without a premine.

• During 2014, the community kept the project alive through mining, giveaways, and relaunches after early technical issues.

Over time, the original network became inactive. Mining pools and blockchain trackers stopped supporting it, and the project is now considered discontinued
