On July 15, 1975, something extraordinary happened above Earth. For the first time in history, an American Apollo spacecraft and a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft successfully docked in orbit, creating a bridge between two countries that had spent decades competing in the Space Race.
The crew of two countries: Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand and Donald “Deke” Slayton (USA) and Alexey Leonov and Valery Kubasov (USSR). They spent several days working together in space, conducting scientific experiments, sharing meals, and demonstrating that cooperation was possible even during times of political tension.
Apollo–Soyuz was a lesson in communication, trust and the power of people to work together beyond borders.
