I hate Christmas songs because they are all usually so ridiculously happy and they don't capture the essence of Christmas spirit which is depressive and melancholic and also unkind. It's a time for reconciliation and yearning and closure, especially for couples who recently broken up or those who can't be with their loved ones.
There’s something inherently melancholic about Christmas because it puts a huge emphasis on togetherness. And when someone is missing, their absence becomes much more noticeable. You’re surrounded by couples, families, traditions, old photographs, familiar songs—and suddenly you’re confronted with who is no longer there or who you wish were there.
And also how people are not horrified because this whole Christmas thing reminds you of passage of the time and how things are not the same and can never be the same.
Happy Christmas songs are ridiculous.
