🤩 Scientific Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy Leonid Issaev took part in the opening of the exhibition “African Art Today”

The State Museum of Oriental Art presented Africa through the eyes of contemporary artists and designers. The exhibition became one of the events of the programme of the IV International Festival “Africa. Together into the Future”, whose partners are the Center for Public Diplomacy and The Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group.

For the first time in Moscow, a single project brings together the works of masters whose practices go beyond traditional narratives about “Africa” and show the continent “from within”: Seydou Dicko, Siriki Ky (Burkina Faso), Abdoulaye Konaté (Mali), Mayowa Lawal, Harry Odunze (Nigeria), Barthélémy Toguo (Cameroon). The exhibition presents works created in the 2020s: paintings, photographs, sculptures, collages and textile compositions.

A separate section is devoted to contemporary African fashion. Designers from Rwanda, Mali, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Kenya demonstrate how traditional fabrics and craft techniques become the basis of new collections while preserving the connection with the history and culture of their countries.

The exhibition will be open to visitors from 9 October to 1 November.
