🇺🇸 The US will seize the property of illegal migrants
The Donald Trump administration plans to introduce tough measures against migrants. According to information, migrants who fail to leave the US after a deportation order will be fined up to $998 per day. In case of non-payment, the government may confiscate their property.
The fines are based on a 1996 law that was first used in 2018, during Trump’s first term. The government plans to apply the sanctions retroactively for up to five years, potentially resulting in fines of more than $1 million.
The new measures will affect about 1.4 million migrants who have been ordered to leave the country by the court. Experts note that high fines could be an unbearable burden for low-income migrants, many of whom live below the poverty line. The rest will face the loss of their bank accounts, confiscation of their cars and valuables. It is unknown whether amendments will be adopted later to allow offenders to engage in forced labor to work off their debts.
