🇨🇦🇺🇸⚡️ — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says that his government has spent the past year preparing for the remote possibility of U.S. military action against Canada following President Trump’s threats to make the country America’s 51st state.

In an interview with NYT, Carney outlined plans to reduce Canada’s dependence on the U.S., including moving away from Starlink, reconsidering its planned purchase of 88 American F-35 fighter jets in favor of alternatives such as Sweden’s Gripen, and expanding economic ties with China.

Despite the tensions, Carney said he continues to speak frequently with Trump, even after bilateral trade negotiations collapsed in August.

He expressed confidence that a new agreement could be reached, potentially involving Canadian potash supplies. He also clarified that Canada is reluctant to leverage energy exports to the U.S.
