💸 Bezos buys into Liverpool

Jeff Bezos — Amazon founder, third-richest person alive, worth around $272 billion — has never invested in a sports team before. That changes now: he's taking a minority stake in Liverpool FC.

Fenway Sports Group sold roughly a third of the club across several deals, valuing Liverpool at just over $7 billion per the New York Times. Bezos came in through a consortium called K5 Sports; also buying in are a group led by UK investor Amit Bhatia and EE Capital, tied to Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. FSG keeps majority control.

Same week: Bob Iger and Josh Kushner announced a deal to buy the LA Lakers for $12.5 billion. Variety reports the Liverpool deal still needs regulatory approval.
