Apple and Nvidia have been trading the world's most valuable company title back and forth for months. This week, Apple pulled ahead again.
Shares climbed 17 points on the week, pushing Apple's market cap to roughly
$4.944T — close enough to the $5T mark to make it the obvious next milestone. Nvidia got there first, becoming the only company ever to cross that threshold, but Apple is clearly in no mood to stay second. All of this is happening mid-transition: Tim Cook steps down as CEO in August, handing the role to John Ternus, while staying on as executive chairman. Apple, apparently, wanted to greet its new era from the top of the leaderboard.
