Everyone's reposting the Uptober stat today, but the best October in Bitcoin's history started with a disaster 💀
October 2013 finished up 60,79%, a record that still stands. On October 2, the FBI shut down Silk Road and arrested Ross Ulbricht. The darknet market was Bitcoin's main real-world use at the time, the answer to "what is this actually for", and the price fell from $127 to $85 within hours.
By the next evening it was back at $117. By December it hit $1,163.
The streak broke last year, though. October 2025 closed down 3,69%, the first red October since 2018.
Here's what makes this year interesting. September has a nickname too, Red September, and it's been as reliable. This year it didn't hold, Bitcoin closed the month up around 7%.
So if one pattern already broke, what does that mean for the other one? 👀
