Officially, McLaren’s door remains closed. Zak Brown said at Silverstone: “I haven’t really thought about that because I’ve got two drivers in the seats,” adding that what he could not offer Verstappen was “a seat in my race car.”
Piastri has also played down the noise: “I’m very happy with where I am… A contract is in place as well.”
Yet PlanetF1 claims discussions around Piastri’s seat have “advanced significantly”, with prominent sources describing a potential initial three-year deal as “imminent.”
The appeal for Verstappen is clear: McLaren’s competitive level, a strong technical structure, and possible reunions with former Red Bull figures Rob Marshall and Gianpiero Lambiase.
