Big update to
Cachyos kernels today.
Not a version bump. But I swear this is good stuff.
Back in 2023, we tweaked it so that all the kconfig vars were identical to the CachyOS set. This diff was later reviewed and approved by a CachyOS developer.
This is important: using the sources and patches of a downstream kernel doesn't give you the same experience, you need to toggle the new and old features, and adjust their knobs. Nixpkgs for their kernels clones ignore the existance of
linuxManualConfig, pick only a few toggles and ignore most the knobs. A totally ilegitimate usage of the downstream names.
After the original sync, I set an RSS to watch every commit in the CachyOS' PKGBUILD, and mostly for a while I kept all the kconfig vars up-to-date. Eventually I failed, reading diffs in a huge shell script it's not fun.
But now, I'm proud to say we're in sync again. And with a few more automations so that it doesn't drift so fast from now on.

Any DX changes?
Yes! For those using the
cachyOverride function, we now have a cachyVars, that uses the same options and accepts the same values as CachyOS' PKGBUILD. But in a JSON. Here's an example turning on optimizations for
x86_64_v3 microarch:
pkgs.linuxPackages_cachyos-lto.cachyOverride { cachyVars = pkgs.linuxPackages_cachyos-lto.kernel.cachyConfig.cachyVars // { "_processor_opt" = "GENERIC_V3"; }; }
