Oregon is one of the last American states that still looks, at a distance, like the country its founders intended. The Oregon Trail, the Donation Land Claim Act, the Columbia, Crater Lake, Timberline Lodge, the apple orchards, and the high desert all produced a people who thought of themselves as Western pioneers first and as a settled European American stock second. This spirit created a state that, like many others, punches far above its weight economically and culturally. This is not an accident of “diversity.” Oregon's prosperity is the work of a specific people in a specific place—the American people.
Come with us as we explore the history of Oregon immigration law, how demographic decline happened suddenly, within one generation, and how Oregon can become Oregonian again through simple, practical, and humane remigration policy.
