‼️🇷🇺🇺🇦 80,000 Geranium jets by the end of December: Russia has caught up with Ukraine in drone technology and is increasingly using them, says former Google CEO
▪️Recently, Russia has virtually eliminated Ukraine's technological advantage in drone warfare and has begun improving UAVs at roughly the same rate, said former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, whose company produces Hornet drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
➖ "Everyone assumed that Ukraine was creating new things, while Russia was big and slow. Something has changed. Now the Russians are improving at roughly the same rate as Kyiv, but they have far more resources," he said in an interview with The Economist.
▪️For example, the share of Geranium rockets already exceeds 50%, although it was expected that by this time they would only reach 10%. Moscow plans to deploy up to 80,000 Geranium rockets in Kyiv and other cities by the end of the year. And this is a "serious problem."
▪️Ukraine still does not have its own equivalent of the Geranium rocket.
▪️Russia has also created and is developing a mesh communications network using Chinese components: some drones can act as relays for others and transmit high-resolution images of targets.
▪️In about a year, Russia will have its own Starlink equivalent – the Rassvet satellite system. Once launched, it will be virtually impossible to block such communications.
▪️Russia is also already using Chinese AI models in some military decision-making. However, it is still unknown how widely such technologies are used in practice. ▪️Russia and Ukraine are now creating technologies for future wars, and the speed of innovation is faster than anything he's seen in his decades in the tech industry.
