Some people believe that women should be treated as equal to men when applying for a job with the police or the military. Others think that women are less suitable for this kind of job. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Women have historically been treated differently from men in the workforce. It is argued by some that women should not be employed in traditionally male-dominated fields, such as the police and the military. Although there may be valid reasons behind this view, I firmly believe that women should be given equal opportunities to work in these sectors, as professional competence depends more on individual abilities and specialised expertise than on gender.

On the one hand, there are certain reasons why some people believe that females are less suited to work in police or military sectors. Firstly, working in such occupations requires strong commitment and tolerance. This is primarily because police officers and military personnel regularly interact with people from diverse backgrounds and must deal with individuals who have different temperaments, sometimes under highly stressful circumstances. Similarly, they often have to tackle dangerous situations, such as robberies and murder cases, which may require them to work around the clock. Such stressful, demanding and unpredictable nature of these jobs leaves female workers with little to no time to spend with their husbands and children. As a result, misunderstandings may arise, which reduces emotional support and even leads to conflicts in the long run. Physical demands are yet another factor. Police officers may need to pursue and restrain physically aggressive suspects, while military personnel are sometimes required to carry heavy equipment and operate in physically challenging environments. Being able to manage such laborous tasks require such skills as very strong strength, stamina and endurance, which females may not have. In this case, relatively weaker nature of females may leave them unfit to work in such fields.

Nevertheless, I believe that equal treatment of both genders is the right approach. Physically demanding and stressful though certain tasks in these professions may be, intelligence, knowledge and expertise remain equally, if not more, crucial competencies. Women can perform slightly lighter duties such as criminal investigations, intelligence analysis, cybercrime detection and strategic planning, all of which require analytical thinking, sound judgement and specialised knowledge rather than exceptional physical strength. Even in physically demanding demanding roles, with the right strategy, proper training, teamwork, consistency and adherence to established policy can enable qualified women to perform duties more effectively. Therefore, in my opinion, professional suitability should be judged based on the basis of individuals enthusiasm, abilities and qualifications rather than gender alone.

In conclusion, while women may appear to be less suited to work in police and military services mainly because of their physical strength and stressful working environment, I strongly assert that females should be treated equally as their counterparts.
