The line graph illustrates how many hours on average spent on manufacturing cars by four different companies in the US between 1998 and 2005.

Overall, it is clear that the figures all manufacturing companies generally decreased from 1998 to 2005, albeit to very different degrees, with the most pronounced change being observed in General Motor. Furthermore, General Motor and Ford spent significantly more hours on car production, whereas the reverse was true for the remaining companies—Toyota and Honda.

Regarding the companies with higher figures first, General Motor and Ford remained the most time-consuming manufacturers, despite witnessing a substantial decrease. The former, which recorded by far the most highest figure on the graph— 32 hours in 1998– had decreased the amount of time gradually by 2000, at around 25 hours. In stark contrast, Ford initially spent 28 hours on producing cars, a figure which then increased to roughly 31 hours in 2001. By 2005, however, both companies had experienced downward trends, with their figures eventually reaching parity at approximately 22 hours.

Comparatively fewer hours, were spent by Toyota and Honda on car manufacturing. Although their starting point was the same in 1998 (22 hours), the gap between these two manufacturers became more noticeable, with Toyota increasing the average time required for car production to just below 24 hours in 1999, whereas Honda’s figure fell to as little as 20 hours in the same year. By 2002, however, the figures for both car manufacturers had risen to almost 24 hours. In the remaining years—2003, 2004, 2005, a steady decline was observed in the average time spent on producing cars, and their figures dipped to 20 hours.
