Engineering in India is too placement centric unfortunately

Engineering has now only become about packages rn tbh. I was the only person from my college (NIT circuital branch) to leave my placement offer and go for higher studies. I honestly had no financial need to get any job rn so I thought ki its best to pursue something I am interested in. But idk why ppl from my btech batch look down upon me ? Bruh I am not even in your industry. Like when I am on call with them or I meet them randomly if I travel ( I travel to URSC and ICTS in Bengaluru very often as my work is in collaboration with them) they talk amongst themselves about their work and aren't even interested to listen to my zone. Okay interest maat rakho but its just bad to look down upon. Or have a dismissive attitude as my work is more mathematical rather than computational . Bhai tere saare ML models ke peeche maths hee hai ..... someone needs to work on those shits cmon. And thats the case I have seen with most ppl unfortunately

Former IIT-D director calls for 5-year BTechs, says one-size-fits-all hurts students

V Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani and former IIT Delhi Director, proposes a flexible five-year BTech program at IITs to address heterogeneous student learning speeds.

He highlights the challenges of one-size-fits-all teaching amid diverse academic backgrounds and ranks. Rao suggests students could graduate in 3.5 to 5 years based on performance, with additional support to reduce stigma around extended study.

He emphasizes maintaining standards while accommodating varied learning paces and fair evaluation of recent controversies at IIT Bombay.
