The Research Paper Trap: How College Professors Exploit Students for Promotions
If you want a good placement after engineering college, focus on building real skills and avoid the "research paper scam" at all costs. This is the reality of what happened to me when I was in college.
I guess we were in our 4th semester, and we had a web development lab class. Our professor came to the first class and told us: "You can learn web development from anywhere, but do you know what is most important for a college student? A research paper."
Instead of teaching us what or how to research, he divided the entire class into groups and assigned everyone the task of writing a research paper. He suggested that we first download some research papers from various websites, study them, and understand how they work—which basically meant copy-pasting to avoid plagiarism. No one actually conducted real research or wrote their own thesis and principles. He also instructed us to include his name on the papers. Everyone followed his suggestions.
When it came time for publication, we had to publish it on IEEE, which cost around ₹6,000 to ₹7,000. We contributed the money ourselves, and all of this was just for good grades and nothing else.
This is a scam. Avoid it if possible, and spend your time learning real skills if you want a good placement.
