Abstract: Cables suspending the decks of transport infrastructure facilities and prestressing cables should be sufficiently protected from the effects of corrosion throughout their service life. Inadequate protection of suspension cables resulting from design and workmanship errors, poor choice of materials or damage and insufficient maintenance work creates conditions for the development of corrosion processes and often leads to the need for repairs to extend the life of the structure and slow down the process of structural degradation. The paper presents the results of observations and surveys of suspension elements and prestressing cables in an existing bridge structure, which illustrate the actual extent of progressive changes in their technical condition after 14 years of operation. In addition, it is demonstrated that corrosion processes also occur in a bridge structure designed in accordance with current regulations.
