Deep Learning Techniques for Damage Detection in Structural Health Monitoring: A Review
Abstract. The article discusses the potential applications of deep learning methods in structural health monitoring tasks. It examines three types of data obtained during monitoring: dynamic data (acceleration recordings), camera images, and data acquired through non-destructive testing methods (e.g., thermal images). The goal of applying these methods is to automate the process of defect and damage recognition, determining their location and identification, as well as to automate tasks related to assessing the technical condition of the structure and predicting the impact of defects on its condition indicators.
The article details the methodology of the review. Based on the analysis, conclusions are drawn regarding the capabilities and limitations of using deep learning tools in structural health monitoring. Among the identified advantages are opportunities for automation and increased accuracy in structural condition assessment. At the same time, it is noted that significant limitations exist concerning the volume of existing databases of defects and damages, and consequently, challenges in preparing universal models for analyzing any type of damage.
