AI agent commerce is getting plenty of attention, but the activity may not be as autonomous as it looks.
TRM Labs analyzed Coinbase’s x402 payment rail, which has processed around $52.7M across 198.9M payments since May 2025. After filtering self-payments and unusual flows, researchers estimated that only around 0.6%–7.5% of the remaining value resembled genuine agent purchases. Much of the activity looked more like automated scripts repeatedly paying the same seller at the same price.
AI narratives move fast, but on-chain activity still needs context. At BoBe, we focus on something measurable: spot trading with transparent trading data, rather than chasing the latest agent hype.
💬 What would convince you that an on-chain payment came from a real autonomous AI agent - not just a script running on a timer?
