This is a series of works in which the tree root becomes a central motif for exploring identity, community, past experience, and migration. Recent events have compelled many to change countries and cultural contexts. This new series examines the moment when the root—a symbol of origin and rootedness—is torn from the earth and placed in a sterile, alien environment. While retaining its raw, organic internal structure, the root is encased in metal on the outside, adopting the forced language of a new way of life. Thus, the root continues to live not despite displacement, but through it—sprouting through the white architecture of the space as if through new soil.
