🌟 How do I commit words and idioms to memory?

📌Этот пост будет о 3-х моих самых любимых методах записи и запоминания новых слов и идиом.

📌Vocabulary is best studied in sets (from a vocabulary student's book, for example). Your main goal is to remember the word, its spelling, pronunciation, definition and application.

🐈 Each time you encounter a new word or fixed expression, make sure to check out its meaning in a trusted dictionary.

That being said, let's delve deeper into some of the ways I learned new vocabulary throughout my olympiad journey:

1️⃣Miro board

📌I strongly recommend setting up a Miro board account. This app allows you to paste new words with definitions on digital boards. They can be arranged in clusters with similar meanings and you can colour-code pretty much everything.
📌As a visual learner, I found it extremely helpful. Although this isn't the best option for active recall, just writing down the vocabulary is already of significant help. A great alternative to keeping a myriad of paper notebooks.

2️⃣Using the words in writing

📌This point is quite banal, yet the method I used has a slightly different take.
📌After learning a new set of words, don't stop after doing the workbook exercises. Write a short paragraph, making use of all of the new vocabulary that you studied, even if it feels heavy and overloaded.
📌This is beneficial, as writing a text helps you memorise not just the spelling of the word, but also its application and contextual definition.

Here is one of my examples:
I believe that being unpretentious and ebullient towards your interests is highly important and useful in life, because first of all, by being respectful and by embracing your social foibles you can establish many peerless connections with the people around you. Secondly, being engrossed in an activity that you adore is one of the best feelings in the world, which allows you to congregate and share experiences with others. By aggregating with other like-minded people who are also enthralled by the subject in question, you can adroitly change the world for the better, creating new, remarkable things.

Clunky, I know. But it served its purpose. 😐

3️⃣Flashcards, duh

📌I used the Anki flashcards and Chegg. Unlike Miro, these services allow you to learn the words through active recall and spaced repetition.
📌However, make sure to create a functional system for revising and storing the vocabulary to avoid mixups.

🤩🤩🤩
The preparation for the final stage of ВсОШ involves elevating your level of vocabulary to C2. Many of my fellow teammates would complain about the inapplicability of the words.
Yet one of the most gratifying experiences for me is coming across words like alacrity and clandestinely in Victorian novels and primary sources for my current research in politology.
So, please, never forget that no matter how complex the topic is, it does have an application in the world (perhaps a more niche one, but exhilarating nonetheless).
🤩🤩🤩

Collect the keys even if the door that you're currently trying to unlock has a simple catch.

А какие способы запоминания слов и идиом используете вы? пишите в комменты! 🥺
