From the "Philosophical Parables" Section
Once upon a time, Searle was in China, and he decided to go to a restaurant.
They brought him a menu with no pictures, and everything in it was written in Chinese. The waiters were no help either, as they didn't speak English.
Searle put on his glasses and began studying the characters. He knew that each character meant something, even though it all looked like complete gibberish to him.
After some thought with a wise expression on his face, Searle decided to pick something at random. But suddenly, he imagined them bringing him poisonous fugu fish with inevitable consequences.
Meanwhile, outside the restaurant, a group of scientists was waiting for the results of an experiment. They waited and waited, but nothing happened. As a result, one of them handed the other a bottle of wine.
It all looked a bit strange.
