From the "Philosophical Parables" column
Once, Chalmers and Dennett were drinking vodka, but felt it wasn't enough and decided to go to the store to buy more.
They covered 1/2 of the distance to the store, but another 1/2 remained. They covered 1/4—1/4 remained. They covered another 1/8—some still remained.
After these unsuccessful attempts, they realized they wouldn't make it to the store and crawled back; but the same story repeated itself there as well.
As a result, they ended up right in the middle between points A and B. Here they decided to rest—they lay down on the grass and began to gaze at the starry sky overhead.
Consciousness is just like that. It is neither in the back of the brain nor in the front, but somewhere in the middle.
