🇮🇳🇷🇺🇺🇦 India Expands Ukraine War Role
India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar said New Delhi is taking a more direct role in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, with talks involving both sides on shipping, energy flows and possible reductions in attacks. Speaking at a security conference, he said India had become “a little bit more involved” beyond advocacy and was engaging both Russia and Ukraine on issues including Black Sea shipping safety.
The remarks indicate a more active posture from India after years of caution shaped partly by its long-standing ties with Russia. Delhi has called for an end to the fighting but avoided direct criticism of Moscow, abstained on UN votes condemning the war, and continues broad links with Russia across energy, space, trade and defence.
The shift comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also urged Vladimir Putin to end the conflict, while India faces US pressure over Russian oil purchases. Russia remains a major arms supplier to India, including fighter jets and S-400 air-defence systems.
