🇺🇸🇹🇭 US carrier visits Phuket
The USS George H.W. Bush arrived off Phuket on Oct. 4 with about 4,800 personnel aboard for a rest-and-recreation stop after months supporting US operations in the Middle East. The Nimitz-class carrier will remain offshore while crew members are expected to come ashore through Phuket Deep Sea Port, according to local media reports.
The carrier had been operating in the Arabian Sea during the conflict with Iran, according to multiple media reports cited by Reuters. The visit follows a five-day port call last month by the USS Abraham Lincoln at Laem Chabang in eastern Thailand, and comes as Thailand remains the United States' only treaty ally in mainland Southeast Asia.
Crew visits are expected to run from Oct. 4 to 9, extending a recent pattern of US naval port calls in Thailand.
