🇰🇷🇰🇵 DMZ Blasts Tied to North Korean Mines

South Korea’s military said North Korean mines were highly likely to have caused two explosions in the DMZ on Sept. 21 that injured three soldiers, including two seriously, near the Military Demarcation Line. The blasts occurred about 10 meters south of the line as an 18-member unit was opening a new search path to inspect suspected mine-laying, Seoul said in a briefing.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman Kwon Dae-won said a final investigation is still underway, but the military signaled it would respond if Pyongyang’s involvement is confirmed. The incident points to continued instability along the inter-Korean border, where mine activity and frontline engineering work remain a persistent military risk despite the armistice framework.

All three soldiers remain hospitalized. A confirmed attribution would add another direct security confrontation on the Korean Peninsula.
