🇸🇬🇺🇸🇯🇵 Singapore Opens Advanced Substrate Plant

Broadcom and Toppan Holdings have opened Singapore’s first advanced chip substrate facility in Singapore, with operations starting months ahead of schedule. The U.S.-Japanese project is aimed at easing a packaging bottleneck affecting AI chip production and supporting the city-state’s role in semiconductor supply chains.

Advanced chip substrates are a critical input for high-performance computing and AI data center chips, where supply constraints have become a limiting factor in scaling output. The launch adds a new upstream capability in Southeast Asia as governments and chip companies diversify manufacturing capacity beyond existing concentration points in North Asia.

The facility strengthens Singapore’s position in higher-value semiconductor manufacturing rather than assembly alone. It also deepens industrial links between U.S. chip design and Japanese materials and packaging expertise.
