🇰🇷 South Korea Advances KPS Satellite

South Korea’s space agency said it will hold a final critical design review for the first Korean Positioning System satellite before production begins, with launch targeted for September 2029. The Korea AeroSpace Administration said the review, involving ministries and research institutions, will clear the way to begin production of the KPS No. 1 flight model.

The Korean Positioning System is a domestic satellite navigation network intended to provide high-precision positioning, navigation and timing services over the Korean Peninsula and nearby areas. Seoul plans to invest 3.72 trillion won over 14 years from 2022 in the program, which forms part of a broader push to build independent space and navigation infrastructure.

KASA said it still aims to deploy all eight KPS satellites by 2035 despite delays to the overall program.
