📱 What is your screen replacing?
We often ask: “How much screen time is too much?”
But there may be a better question:
What is the screen replacing?
Every hour spent scrolling could mean one less hour of talking face-to-face, exercising, solving problems, reading, playing, or simply being bored.
Screens can also become an easy way to escape uncomfortable emotions. When children feel lonely, frustrated or anxious, reaching for a phone can provide a quick distraction instead of giving them a chance to process those feelings.
And there’s another hidden cost: attention. Constant notifications and messages can make it harder to start and finish a task without distraction.
The goal isn’t to eliminate screens.
It’s to make sure that screens don’t replace the experiences that help us become social, independent and emotionally capable people.
💭 Maybe the better question isn’t “How much time did I spend on my phone?”
It’s “What could I have done instead?”
