Meet our first guest Semyon from Bolshoy Kamen for our rubric about cities through the eyes of locals!

😆Many people from Vladivostok have heard of Bolshoy Kamen, but today Semyon, a third-year student at FEFU and also the head of Trip ARIS, will share new interesting facts about the town he is from!

🤭For example, did you know that the president visits this town much more often than Vladivostok? It's all because this small but very significant city is home to the "Zvezda" shipbuilding factory, which attracts workers from different regions!

But you'll learn from the podcast even more, Semyon talks about:

Why can't we stop eating junk food? 😅

Hello, guys! Today, is our new rubric "Mind Sparks" which focuses on the study various cognitive and relevant topics! Today we're diving into a topic that affects absolutely everyone! We'll talk about why we sometimes feel so helpless in front of a pack of chips or cookies. It's not just a lack of willpower - it's a carefully made marketing strategy by food producers!

Have you ever noticed that you can eat a whole pack of something "tasty" without even feeling full? It turns out that it's not your fault, it is the result of precise calculation😄

😆Magic of texture that tricks your brain
Nowadays, food is designed to require almost no chewing. Soft and airy, it melts in your mouth, breaking the natural mechanism of satiety. This phenomenon is called Vanishing caloric density. You end up eating much more because your brain simply doesn't have time to realise that you're already full!

😆Food is a multi-sensory experience
Producers don't work just on taste, they create a whole ritual. It's the crunch the product makes, the rustle of the packaging and even the distinctive click when you open a can of soda. This is called Sonic branding. Think of cereals that "snap, crackle and pop." That's not just a catchy advertising slogan - it's a way to create a powerful association and make the product even more desirable!

😆War for your stomach
Food companies don't just fight for your money, they fight for your Stomach share. Their goal is to make you snack constantly. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner... and another little snack before bed. Many products are positioned as "healthy" (veggie straws, protein bars) but, in essence, they are the same ultra-processed foods that don't provide real satiety!

😆Shocking discovery
Research shows that ultra-processed food affects the brain similarly to addictive substances! Their combination of artificial fats, sugars and textures triggers compulsive overeating!

🤩 So if you've been struggling with your weight for years and blaming yourself for a lack of willpower - stop, it's not your weakness, it's a deliberate strategy of food engineering that only willpower is often not enough to combat. Realizing that the system is built against you is the first and most crucial step to regaining control over your diet and health!

Satiety - the feeling of fullness and satisfaction after eating
Vanishing caloric density - when food melts quickly in your mouth, tricking your sense of fullness
Sonic branding - the use of unique sounds to make a product recognizable
Stomach share - the portion of a consumer's diet that a manufacturer aims to capture with their product

🤭Почему именно 4 ноября?
Эта дата уходит корнями в глубокое, но очень важное событие русской истории – окончание Смутного времени в начале XVII века

😆 Тогда, после периода кризисов и вторжений, Россия переживала тяжелые времена. Страна была разделена, а Москва была занята иностранными войсками (в основном польскими)
😆В 1612 году народное ополчение было собрано земским старостой Кузьмой Мининым и князем Дмитрием Пожарским. Эта армия была особенной, потому что она объединила людей из разных слоев общества и народностей – дворян, горожан, крестьян – все ради одной цели
😆4 ноября (по старому стилю) их войско штурмом освободило Москву от оккупации. Эта победа положила конец периоду хаоса и позволила избрать нового русского царя, восстановив Россию как независимое государство.

Так что же мы празднуем сегодня?

Happy National Unity Day!

This holiday symbolizes the strength and unity of people in Russia. It reminds us that we can overcome all challenges together🤩

🤭Why November 4th?
This date has its roots in a deep but very important event in Russian history – the end of Smuta in the early 17th century

😆Back then, after a period of crises and invasions, Russia was going through hard times. The country was divided, Moscow was occupied by foreign troops (mainly Polish).
😆In 1612 people's volunteer army was assembled by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky. This army was special because it united all social classes — nobility, citizens, peasantries — all for one goal.
😆On November 4th (old style), their army stormed Moscow, ending its occupation. This victory lead to the end of chaos period and gave the opportunity to elect new Russian tsar, restoring Russia as an independent state

So what do we celebrate today?
🧐The power of unity and helping each other
🧐The ability to overcome difficulties together
🧐The rich diversity of cultures and peoples of Russia

Today is the day of pride, memory and shared hopes for the future!

🤩Сегодня день, когда каждый может пугать людей, пить тыквенный латте, смотреть фильмы ужасов и ходить в пугающих костюмах, ведь 31 октября мир отмечает Хэллоуин!🎃

Откуда же пришел этот повсеместный праздник, когда все вырезают из тыкв разные рожицы и выпрашивают конфеты в костюмах? 😅

Все началось с ирландских и шотландских кельтов, а точнее с их традиции отмечать Самайн. Это древний языческий фестиваль, который ознаменовал для кельтов начало холодной зимы. Уже затем Самайн приобрел католическую значимость в 16 веке и стал известен как канун Дня Всех Святых. 

И с приходом ирландских и шотландских иммигрантов в Соединенные Штаты в конце 19 века, сейчас мы все знаем об этом празднике, как Хэллоуин. День, когда люди со всего мира веселятся, проводят время с близкими и едят конфеты.🍬

🤩Today is the day when everyone can scare people, drink pumpkin spice latte, watch horror movies, and walk around in scary costumes, because on October 31st, the world celebrates Halloween! 🎃

But where did this international holiday come from, where everyone carves different faces into pumpkins and asks for candy in costumes?😅

It all started with the Irish and Scottish Celts, and more precisely, with their tradition of celebrating Samhain. This ancient pagan festival marked the beginning of the cold winter for the Celts. Later, in the 16th century, Samhain took on Catholic significance and became known as All Hallows' Eve

And with the arrival of Irish and Scottish immigrants in the United States in the late 19th century, we now all know this holiday as Halloween. It's a day when people from all over the world have fun, spend time with loved ones, and eat candy🍬
