Astaxanthin
Day 3 of testing this convoluted but potentially promising supp; Astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin is the red-pigment carotenoid found in algae, salmon and flamingos.
(Itβs what causes the pink-red color.)
>Said to be the strongest known natural antioxidant (anti-PUFA)
>Potential anti-aging, neurogenesis
>Strong protection against UV damage, restores skin youthfulness (R)
>Improves eyesight (R)
>Might prevent hair loss (R)
>Positive effect on sperm parameters and fertility in men
Mixed reviews on the RPF.
According to Peat it could interfere with thyroid and reduce DHT.
Apparently a dose of 4mg can stop sun burn, itβs antioxidant potency might be useful to stabilize PUFA inside the body.
It does seem to be a 5-AR inhibitor which could cause increase in serotonin which sucks.
UV goes up to 8-10 up here in the Austrian mountains and even though Iβve got a tan I still burned within 2 hours of high noon sun.
Letβs see how my skin ends up next month.
Do you have any experience with Astaxanthin?
[Update]:
You still burn after heavy sun exposure, albeit it seems to be less.
I think Astaxanthin could be useful to use briefly when exposed to a ton of PUFA.
It does seem to function as an AR inhibitor so if youβre sensitive to that you might want to skip this one.
