🤔 Apple rethinking the entire Watch lineup

📰 Mark Gurman writes, Apple's industrial design team has been quietly exploring a much bigger overhaul of the Apple Watch than usual and it could end up being as dramatic as the iPhone's jump to a foldable form factor.

Reported directions:
🩺 A more AI-driven wearable strategy overall, including a revamped Health app reportedly overseen by Eddy Cue, backed by new sensors — among them a long-rumored blood glucose monitor for future generations.

⌚️ Watches with different screen types and sizes are being considered. A round display has apparently been discussed too, though Gurman says it's unlikely to actually ship anytime soon.

📿 A screen-free wearable is also said to be under exploration — possibly something closer to a smart pendant.

💎 On top of that, Apple has reportedly weighed adding a premium tier above the Ultra and Hermès models, plus a cheaper option below the current SE.

ℹ️ None of 2026's models are expected to bring a design change – that's said to be saved for this year or next, possibly with a return of the ceramic case option. Expect new colors and bands instead, while the real focus this cycle is on health features, fitness tracking, and faster chips.

🆕 HUAWEI unveiled the MateBook Pro S — just 798 g (almost twice as light as the MacBook Air).

14.2″ OLED, 120 Hz, 3120×2080, touchscreen. Magnesium-lithium alloy, up to 18 hours of video, 16–32 GB RAM + 512/1024 GB storage.
Downside: custom Kirin XE90 + HarmonyOS 6.1 (software mostly geared toward China).
Colors: black, gray, lilac, gold, sandy. In China from 8,000 yuan (≈$1,100).

💵 Meanwhile, Apple raised the price of the new MacBook Air by $200 due to chip shortages
Tim Cook called the situation “hundred-year flood” – semiconductor makers are prioritizing richer AI clients.
Apple is even asking US regulators for permission to buy chips from Chinese manufacturer CXMT. Ads now include footnotes about possible availability limits, and the focus has shifted to the base MacBook Pro.

🙂 Apple turns everyday mishaps into ads in new iPhone campaign

📸 Apple has brought its long-running "Relax, it's iPhone" platform to out-of-home advertising for the first time, replacing its signature pristine product shots with iPhones covered in dirt, scratches, water, and everyday wear.

📰 By the way: an iPhone 17 Pro fell out of a Cessna during a flight, dropped 1km+, and survived

US artist Heather Kline was shooting aerial photos when the wind ripped the phone from her hands over a rapeseed field. She'd just bought it days earlier — so she immediately used Find My iPhone on her Apple Watch to grab GPS coords, then drove out with her husband to find it.

Result: zero damage, fully working, cameras intact — and the flight plan was still on screen. The soft field landing probably saved it.

🤪 Paid Siri AI is coming

🧲 Apple has officially confirmed that expanded access to the new AI-powered Siri features will require a paid iCloud+ upgrade. Tim Cook shared the news during the company's fiscal Q3 2026 earnings call.

• No detailed monetization plan yet – Apple wants to gauge demand first, but higher-tier iCloud+ plans are the likely path
• Free usage limits for Siri AI haven't been disclosed, and beta versions currently have no restrictions in place
• This follows an existing pattern: premium iCloud+ tiers already unlock perks like extra Image Playground generations, advanced Photos features, smart Home search, and Cloud Pro storage in Notes

👋 The bigger story: this was Tim Cook's final earnings call as CEO. On September 1, he'll hand the role to John Ternus and move into the role of Executive Chairman – ending a run that began in 2011 after Steve Jobs.

👨‍🏫 Apple held its first-ever official local AI event

which is quietly confirmed its memory roadmap.

📰 According to Alex Cheema, Apple hosted a private local AI event at Apple Park on June 23rd — Apple's first event of its kind, with Tim Cook, John Ternus and other execs speaking about on-device AI.

😐 Cheema says several slides referenced 512GB and 2TB memory configurations – a strong signal Apple isn't planning to abandon high-memory options despite the ongoing DRAM shortage. He expects the M5 Ultra to ship with 512GB unified memory, with the rumored M7 Ultra reaching up to 1.5TB.

🧠 He wasn't able to share the original slides, but recreated one from memory –"Enabling a full range of local AI inference":
- iPhone and iPad. Up to 16GB unified memory. Up to 14 billion active parameters.
- MacBook Air. Up to 32GB unified memory. Up to 35 billion active parameters.
- Mac mini. Up to 64GB unified memory. Up to 70 billion active parameters.
- MacBook Pro. Up to 128GB unified memory. Up to 120 billion active parameters.
- Mac Studio. Up to 512GB unified memory. Up to 480 billion active parameters.
- Mac Studio Cluster. Up to 2TB unified memory. 1.6 trillion+ active parameters.

🤔 This lines up with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who separately reported Apple is preparing an AI server based on the M5 Ultra (codename J246), a second-gen server chip based on the M7 Ultra for ~2029, and – further out – an M8 chip (codename "Soko") plus a high-end Mac chip ("Cardinal"), both on a 1.4nm process by 2028.

🏆 Apple crosses $5 trillion market cap for the first time in history

📰 Apple shares touched an intraday high of $342.89 on Tuesday, pushing the company's market capitalization above $5 trillion – a first for the tech giant.

🥈 Apple becomes only the second public company ever to reach this milestone, after Nvidia first crossed $5 trillion back in October 2025.

📊 Important caveat: this was an intraday peak only. Shares closed the session at $340.08, putting market cap at roughly $4.99 trillion — just shy of the threshold. Apple needed to close above $340.43 to officially finish the day above $5 trillion. Apple is up about 25% year-to-date, compared to Nvidia's +6% over the same period. The company also overtook Nvidia the day before to reclaim its spot as the world's most valuable public company.
