The Gnostic god YaldabaothAccording to the ancient Gnostic texts, there is a creator god named Yadabaoth who is described as the Child of Chaos, and was the son of Sophia (wisdom) in Gnostic Cosmogenesis. Yaldabaoth is called an angel in the apocryphal Gospel of Judas.
He is first mentioned in โThe Cosmos, Chaos, and the Underworldโ as one of the twelve angels to come โinto being [to] rule over chaos and the [underworld]โ. In the โGospel of Nicodemus,โ Yaldabaoth is called Satan, and Dante called the Devil simply a worm.
He is the Chief Archon who is the son of the creator God of Genesis and the demiurge of Platonism. The meaning of the name demiurge is maker which makes him the โcreator of the material world.โ This fact is key to understanding the meaning and role of Yaldabaoth over the material world or the Gnostic Matrix.
